Iona at Galbraith Rare Books is a London-based rare book dealer specialising in private press books, fine and distinctive bindings, and carefully chosen works in fairy tales, mythology, folklore, legends, and the occult, alongside a curated selection of children’s literature.

She has a particular interest in exceptional bindings, where craftsmanship and design transform books into objects of lasting artistic and intellectual value. From classic tales of wonder to esoteric texts and folklore, the collection reflects a thoughtful engagement with the cultural histories and traditions these works represent.

Whether you are a collector, a scholar, or simply drawn to beautifully made books, Iona offers informed guidance and a personal approach to helping clients find titles that suit their interests. Every book in the Galbraith Rare Books inventory is selected with care and a commitment to quality and provenance.

Iona is a regular exhibitor at the monthly ETC fair in Bloomsbury and appears at PBFA book fairs around the UK. While the online catalogue is being developed, enquiries are welcome regarding current stock and services, including rare book valuations and appraisals, selling books, book sourcing, and collector’s advice.

A personal note
on books

My path into the rare book trade grew out of years of collecting and reading widely, with interests that naturally crossed between literature, art, design, and cultural history. Books have always been objects to live with as much as to read, and over time my appreciation for their physical presence, craftsmanship, and provenance deepened alongside the texts themselves.

What drew me to the trade was the variety and unpredictability of the work. No two days are ever the same. It might mean travelling to view a private library, talking with collectors and families about the stories behind their books, or coming across an unexpected and exciting discovery. There is a particular satisfaction in recognising the importance of a book and then placing it with the right person, collection, or home.

At its heart, this work is about connection: between books and readers, past and present, and the people who care for them. Whether helping someone sell a collection or guiding a collector towards a book they have been searching for, I value a thoughtful, personal approach.

Plans are also underway for a physical bookshop, and further details will be shared in due course. Watch this space.
